Many times I’ve wondered whether being kind and polite, adding a smiley to conversations, is it wasted on people who don’t appreciate it?
Some reciprocate, others don’t, and I think the ones that don’t, have a certain power in bringing me down as they quite simply do not care if I’m polite or not, they’ll just do what they want to.
But for the times I have been polite and extra-friendly, I won’t forget the time I helped a father reach for a brochure despite being immensely busy and crowded. He said to me as he took the brochure, “Thank you very much. You’re an angel.”
These are the kinds of people that make it worth it. And I hope that more people don’t take kindness for granted.
