Coffee

Sin See Tai Coffee @ Melaka

After the struggle of MCO and achieving a sense of normality with the RMCO, we decided to take a weekend trip to Melaka to getaway from the city, work, and to spend some time together.

Ironically, Melaka was the first place we went for a holiday together as a couple, so this little journey brought back some memories. Since we’d already covered all the typical cafes and restaurants in the first trip, we decided to do something different and a bit more chill.

After our excursion at an adorable cat cafe, we visited a new coffee cafe which #thecoffeesnob was particularly happy about and super excited to go to.

Sin See Tai is located in a small alleyway with only one-way traffic, and because parking is super scarce, I highly recommend parking outside along the main road and then walking in.

The layout is pretty small, but it’s common for businesses specializing in coffee to be built this way as they want the focus to be on coffee, and that’s that. The lower ground has bar seating where you can watch them prepare drinks and food, but if you have a bigger party, head on upstairs.

Coffee on the board, but they have menus too.
Love that there’s a healthy milk option – oat milk!

After climbing the rickety stairs, the upper level looks a bit forlorn at first. But take a seat and let the mellow music soothe you, and enjoy the spots of greenery and sunlight trailing in while you wait for your cuppa.

Thick, well-read books are available too, and I found a book about world mythology that I enjoyed reading. Would’ve loved to stay the afternoon and read the entire book or pick up a copy to have at home, but 1) we had other things planned, and 2) the book was as thick as a phonebook 🙂

Engrossed in Greek mythology (my favourite).

I had the Uji Matcha Latte with soy milk instead of dairy milk, and he had the Flat White with beans of the day. The matcha had a medium hint of bitterness and wasn’t overly sweet, and I liked that it didn’t give me this ‘bloated’ feeling I sometimes get after drinking lattes.

As for the coffee, #thekopisnob enjoyed his thoroughly and was grinning from ear to ear. Here’s his review, but as all reviews go, it’s subjective to each person 🙂

The coffee was really fruity, tastes like watermelon candy. However, the texture was lacking and it wasn’t mixed properly.

A friend of his joined us later on and if I remember correctly, the conversation went like this:

Him: Try the coffee! Seriously. Try it. *gives a knowing look*
Friend: Why? Is it very good?
Him: Just try it.
Friend: *looks suspicious, orders and takes a sip*
Friend: OH.

Mind-blowing beverages aside, Sin See Tai serves light bites too but as we headed there after breakfast, we didn’t have room for anything else. Just next door is a small kitchen that bakes bread and other pastries, but it’s really just that as they’re not open for walk-in purchases and sit-down customers.

Complimentary pastries because friend-friend.

If you’re in Melaka looking for some good coffee, or eager to try a new cafe in Melaka to boast about to your friends, have a change of pace and scenery at Sin See Tai. It may lack the usual cafe aesthetics of IG-worthy (🤮) backdrops and settings, but I can assure that your soul will feel healed and refreshed.
